What To Expect

Granny's tidal pool is situated at Salt Rock close to Ballito. It is an extremely shallow and safe tidal pool especially suited for small children. The bottom of the pool is mostly sanded up which makes it soft and kind to young children to swim in and enjoy. The tidal pool has separate male and female ablution facilities for bathers and outside showers to rinse of the salt after the swim.

A dedicated parking area is available for access to the pool and beach , even thought this is a short drive from Ballito it is sometimes well worth it if the other main beaches in Ballito are getting crowded in the holiday season.

Siggi's a German restaurant with a play area is just across the parking lot and Saltyz restaurant and pub with one of the best Bunny Chows in town just across the road.

Not really a snorkeling tidal pool for Ballito or Salt Rock and you are better off going to Thomsan's bay for a snorkeling experience. It is important to note that lifeguards are not present at Granny's pool however the tidal pool itself is extremely safe. Taking the absence of lifeguards into consideration though it is advisable to only use the tidal pool and not swim in the sea at this beach.
